For some reason, I was unconscious. Disoriented. Where was I? What day was it? How much time had passed?
A pair of startling blue eyes were above me as I jolted awake, gasping, "Who say what now?"
The boy chuckled, running a pale hand through his pure white hair. "So you aren't dead!" He gave me a huge smile. "Well, that's great news, looks like Bunny won't be having another depression spell anytime soon!"
Bunny. The hole. The Man in the Moon. It was all coming back. I looked at the boy. "Umm... Where are we and who exactly are you?"
He lifted his chin, eyes glimmering mischievously. "We're in North's place." He held out his hand. "And I'm Jack Frost. Nice to meet you finally, Mother Nature." He winked at me.
I took his hand and started to shake it when he bent over it and placed a soft kiss on my hand. A shiver went up my spine. He was so cold. My instincts were to reach out and envelope him in a warm hug and stay that way for eternity until he was warm and happy again. But I knew that he was Jack Frost and he was supposed to be cold.
"Mother - Oh yeah, that." I smirked. "Call me Sophie. Or mum, but that makes me sound old."
Jack raised his eyebrows and laughed. "How about I'll make my own nickname for you. Like, how about Nat for Nature? Does that work?"
I shrugged. "Sure. Whatever floats your boat."
He grinned. "Cool." He twirled his staff around, creating an arch of ice in the air, then he blew and it dissipated into small, dainty, snowflakes. "So... Do you have any powers?"
I frowned. "Powers?"
"Yeah, like I can control ice and snow." He smiled. "Tooth has wings and can fly pretty freaking fast. Sandman can do crazy things with sand, Bunny can open tunnels to go wherever, and..." He bit his lip, thinking for a while, then chuckled. "I really don't know what North does, but he's really talented as an artist." He winked at me.
I blushed slightly, racking my mind for any 'powers' I might have. "I..." I shook my head. "I dunno. I've never really needed powers. So I guess I don't have any?"
Jack shook his head. "No, you're Mother Nature. You've gotta have some insanely awesome powers."
"I might..." I sighed. "I just don't know what they are."
"That's alright." Jack perched atop his staff. "You can figure them out later. Right now, we need to get to the other guardians."
